Representative Channell encourages participation in scholarship
program
Up to Six Deserving
Students From District 116 May Be Nominated
(Sept. 6, 2006) Today State Representative Mickey Channell (R -
Greensboro) announced his support for a scholarship program at North
Georgia College & State University and encouraged local students to
apply.
The Military Scholarship Program pays for tuition, books, fees,
room, and board for students during their undergraduate studies.
Those chosen for the program agree to repay the scholarship after
receiving their bachelor’s degrees by serving part-time in the
Georgia Army National Guard as commissioned second lieutenants for
four years after graduation.
State Representatives, including Rep. Channell, are entitled to
nominate up to six candidates for the scholarship. The requirements
for applicants are as follows: (1) High School Senior; (2) legal
resident of Georgia; (3) 480 on the critical reading portion and a
440 on the math portion of the SAT; (4) a 3.0 GPA on a
college-preparatory track; and (5) meet the physical and mental
standards for serving in the Georgia Army National Guard. The
deadline for scholarship applications is March 10, 2007, but NGC&SU
highly recommends completing the application before Thanksgiving.
“The Military Scholarship Program allows students to both better
themselves through education and serve our country in the National
Guard,” Rep. Channell said. “It is my hope that students in this
district will take time to explore the benefits of this program.”
More information on the program can be obtained by visiting your
high school guidance counselor or by contacting Rep. Channell at
