DOT takes action to improve safety at dangerous crossroads

(Sept. 6, 2006) Today, State Representative Mickey Channell (R - Greensboro) announced that the Georgia Department of Transportation will soon begin working on improvements to the intersection of Georgia Highway 22 and Georgia Highway 44.  The intersection has been the site of 12 deaths in the past 15 years, and countless other accidents have occurred at this busy crossroads.

“I am pleased to see that the Georgia Department of Transportation is taking steps to improve safety at this intersection,” Rep. Channell said.  “My condolences go out to the families that recently lost loved ones in an accident at this intersection, and it is my hope that the DOT’s action helps to prevent future accidents and loss of life.”

The Department of Transportation plans on making the intersection a four-way stop, and a flasher will be installed along with the new stop signs.  The scheduled completion date for the project is Sept. 22.

State Representative Mickey Channell (R – Greensboro) represents District 116 in the Georgia General Assembly, which includes all or part of Wilkes, Greene, Oglethorpe and Putnam Counties.  He may be reached at (706) 453-1230 or via email at email@repmickeychannell.org.
