Immigration

Mickey Channell believes that the best way to control illegal entry into the United States is to enforce our immigration laws and he believes that amnesty is not the answer. He knows that immigration laws were put into place for a reason and no one should be rewarded for breaking the law. Mickey believes our businesses and government agencies should not be expected to accommodate illegal immigrants or give them free government services.

Mickey believes that employers should not be allowed to turn a blind eye to hiring undocumented workers, and industries where illegals are concentrated, including construction, agriculture and some service industries, should implement targeted enforcement by using the payroll tax system. The costs of an undocumented workforce should not be forced upon state and local communities. Opportunities need to be created for U.S. employers to hire employees they need to conduct business.

Mickey in Action

  • Voted to pass SB 529, which seeks to crack down on illegal immigrants and those who hire them, generally by verifying the legal status of adults applying for taxpayer-provided services in Georgia and by removing tax breaks for anyone who employs undocumented workers. This legislation has been touted as the toughest state action against illegal immigration.
