Preserving the Environment

Mickey Channell is committed to protecting the air, land and water quality of District 116 and the state of Georgia. He has always approached environmental issues with a common sense, balanced approach. Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair are important and vital resources for the State of Georgia and especially for our district and these lakes are largely responsible for the population and tourism growth in Putnam and Greene Counties. Mickey was a County Commissioner when Lake Oconee was impounded in the late 1970s and he witnessed firsthand the positive impact it has had on our district.

As a lakeside homeowner, Mickey, his children and grandchildren swim in the Lake giving him even more reason to preserve the health and quality of these two lakes. He wants to continue the lakes contribution to our economy and our quality of life and he will support future legislation that strictly prohibits both inter-basin water transfers and the selling of water permits. Mickey is a strong opponent of allowing Atlanta, or anyone else, to siphon off rural water for future needs.

Mickey would like to hear from Lake Oconee Water Watch (LOWW), Lake Oconee Property Owners Association (LOPOA), the Georgia Water Coalition (GWC) and others. Your input will be very helpful to him as he deals with environmental issues that affect all of us.
